What is the meaning of the term "public domain"?

Answer

Public domain refers to the absence of copyright protection for government publications and older works for which the copyright has expired.  Works in the public domain can be freely shared without copyright restrictions. The Library can help you determine whether or not an information resource is in the public domain.
