Q. Can I get a book that's checked out to someone else?

Answer

If the local copy of the book from you want is already checked out, you can recall it or get it through Interlibrary Loan.

  • Find the book in Melvyl, the catalog for all UC libraries
  • If the local copy is checked out, you will see the option to Place Hold
  • Place Hold means that the library will recall the book
  • The library will email you when the book is returned and ready for you to check out

A better option may be to get a copy through Interlibrary Loan from another campus. This is often faster than recalling the book from another patron.
