What is the difference between a database and a platform?

Answer

A database searches different sources and types of information.  A platform is the interface used by the database provider.  For example EBSCO is a database provider that hosts many databases using the same platform or interface.  Academic Search Complete and Business Source complete are two of many EBSCO databases that use the same platform but search different information sources.
