Click here for a step-by-step guide to exporting citations from PubMed into RefWorks.

  • Conduct a search in PubMed to generate a results list.
  • Select the items of interest on the results list.  Check mark the items.
  • Select "Send to".
  • Select "Citations manager".
  • Click "Create File".
  • Save file in location you can easily locate.
  • Login to your RefWorks account with your username and password.
  • Select "Reference ... Import" to open the RefWorks Import Form.
  • Select the NLM PubMed filter in the first pull down menu (Import Filter/Data Source.) Make sure that PubMed is shown in the "Database" box. 
  • Click "Browse".  Locate the file you recently saved.
  • Click "Open" to select it.
  • Click "Import".
  • You will be notified when the import is complete.
  • Click "View Last Imported Folder" to see your imported citations.
