What happens if I don't return books by the due date?

Answer

Overdue Materials

  • Borrowing privileges are suspended until overdue materials are returned.
  • Items more than 30 days overdue are considered lost and patrons are charged replacement plus processing fees.
  • Borrowing privileges are reinstated when overdue items are returned and fees are paid.

Replacement and Processing Frees

  • Lost items are billed at the replacement cost of $100 or current market price, whichever is higher, plus a $25 processing fee.
  • When a lost item is returned, the replacement cost is removed from your record; the $25 processing fee still applies.
  • Charges outstanding for more than 30 days are referred to a collection agency.
  • Outstanding charges may result in blocked access to transcripts.

Current students can pay for Library fees online through MyBill. Individuals without a UCMNetID can use CashNet. Please email Library@ucmerced.edu for additional payment and replacement options.
