Question title

Can I get a book that's checked out to someone else?

FAQ Answer

Answer

If the local copy of the book you want is already checked out, you can recall it or get it through Interlibrary Loan.

  • Find the book in UC Library Search , the catalog for all UC libraries
  • If the local copy is checked out and a copy is not available as an eBook, you will see the option to Place Hold or Interlibrary Loan Request
  • Place Hold means that the library will recall the book (there is no guarantee the book will be returned).
  • Interlibrary loan request will take you to a request form to get the book from another campus. This is often faster than recalling the book from another patron.
